“I will always remember the day I saw Guy Ritchie’s masterpiece film, The Gentlemen, in the theater. It was a magical Sunday with my family when we followed church with pizza, beer, and a movie. This flick had come with a glowing recommendation from my friend, so we checked into the cinema for an experience that was beyond my already lofty expectations. This was not your average crime flick; this film was action-packed, witty, hilarious, and full of twists and turns. Not only was I amazed, my wife and mother-in-law were both enamored by the quality of this motion picture. The Gentlemen is one of the most underrated films of the last 10 years.” - Nathan Conrad (Spoken Nerd, Contributor @ Ghettoblaster Magazine)
Matthew McConaughey takes the lead role as Mickey Pearson, an American cannabis kingpin who made his fortune in Britain through production and distribution of sinsemilla. When Pearson tries to retire from his life of crime and sell the business, he runs into treachery, political problems, and new enemies to face. Although he is a man who wants to settle, he refuses to settle for less than what he is owed.
Spoken Nerd’s latest single, “The Gentlemen,” is a rap monologue from the perspective of Mickey Pearson. The lyrics capture the gentle criminal’s perspective as he explains his yearning to get out of the drug game, while making no concessions to the greed of his rivals. This song was produced by Nashville-based hip hop affectionate, Nathan Zensen. The beat captures the feel of the film’s soundtrack, while Nerd references David Rawling’s iconic opening credits song, “Cumberland Gap,” in the second verse.
Spoken Nerd’s “The Gentlemen” is part of his film-inspired song series, Filmology. You can read more of Spoken Nerd’s thoughts on films like this at
